Has anyone come up with a cure or solution for the audio output of the Cobra 200 sounding nasal and under-driven.

Why not use a car battery to power the radio.

car battery will need a sufficient charge presented to it. the cobra seems to draw a fair amount of current(more like an amplifier, then a CB radio), and voltage drop will occur rapidly. put a stock CB on a car battery, & even as voltage goes under 12, it'll still sound alright. as soon as the voltage to the cobra drops, it'll sound funny.

Thanks, but my poor SSB audio output is not power related. I suspect that the ALC limiter in this radio causes the poor audio output. Does anyone know how to clip or open the ALC for this radio? The older radios used a RV to control the SSB ALC output, but this radio doesn't have one and the SSB modulation is restricted to less than 95%.

defeating the ALC caused problems in the originals. in even the new ones, defeating it makes 'em sound worse.
