Heres one for all the 102 ss whip users out there. What is the best band width anyone has with their 102 ss whip, IE 2.1 swr from low freq to high freq? I have a 102 ss whip mounted on on the trunk lid of my 1992 tempo. It is attached to a bracket just above the key latch , no spring just the whip with an extension which gives it overall length of 111 inches.Radio is a moded TRC 451 without any amp, all the doors are bonded to the car with ground straps as well as the trunk lid and the hood , coax is about 20 feet long and is RG mini 8 . I see an swr , (not swrs)of very close to 1.1 from 26.965 to 27.635 using a Yeasu YS2000 swr and pep watt meter.I would like to know if anyone else has a 102 ss whip and how it performs as far as bandwidth.
Tnx Bob CEF451

Your getting close to 1 mhz of bandwidth and keeping the swr down to around 1.1, thats really good. I was getting close to 1.5mhz of bandwidth before the swr got out of my comfort zone. I can't remember the numbers exactly but I will say that I know without a doubt that the 102 inch whip has the best range of bandwidth than any other antenna. My Predator is a close 2nd standing at just over 7 feet. Actually I would not be worried using a 102 inch whip 1Mhz up or down tuned perfect on 27.205! With my Predator I am well under 3.0 SWR on 27.995! Never really checked how low it will go but swr is 2.5 or better at 26.655! I know the 102 inch whip should blow my Predator away as far as bandwidth, or at least be the same.
Every install of any mobile antenna is going to be different because of how it was connected to the body of the vehicle.
Bob, Looks like you got it going on man! Good job on such excellent performance. Our antennas are bound to cross signal paths someday!

I have my Magnum S9 in my truck on a 102" whip and it transmits on it's frequency range just fine. I'm impressed.

mine cut for 27.5 went to 28.5 and down to 26.965 under 2:1 which with the 2 way switch allowed me to use one antenna for CB and 10 meters SSB With it cut for 28.5 it went 27.000 to 29.600 under 2:1 not bad for a 102 inch wire ....good again for CB and 10 meter FM and with the auto tuner( ah-4 ) i can go 40 meters to 6 meters on one wip.
