If you mount a beam in the vertical position what problems does the mast pose to it |

It will detune it and distort the main lobe ... |

Bruce so no matter what a mast will detune it is that why a Gismichy is shaped like a upside down Y ? therefore elimating the mast problem |

I might help but I'm a fan of stacking 2 antennas side by side ( I did this on 2 meters ) and that seems to solve the problem.
My arrow beams had a very clean frount lobe ..... |

It's not just the mast distorting the pattern, a yagi mounted in the vertical plane will have a broader main lobe and lower gain than when mounted in the horizonatl plane-- unless it is mounted several wavelengths above ground. And stacking them doesn't help that.
That's why I built a quad. |
