So is this a type accepted unit? Judging by Pic number 2 I say no but by the description I say yes? Could be a new affordable base for those around here that want one. The CBS1000 REALLY caught my eye when I was first shopping for a base. Chad Moderator Note! YES |

I have questions- What are the dimensions of the radio? Is the receiver single, double, or triple conversion? Will it run on 120 AC and/or 12 volts DC? How many pins and what type of mic plug? What size speaker? Where IS the speaker? There has not been a GOOD base station CB with SSB in a long time. I hope this radio is really good, since that is a product that has been missed. |

Chad, It is a type accepted radio, until the simple mod for 400 channels and an open clarifier have been done. I've owned the Cherokee CBS-1000, having just sold it this year. The radio has great receive, also outstanding transmit audio. Very stable on sideband, microphone wiring is standard five pin the same as the 5 pin Uniden and Cobra radios. I would say at this price tag it's a very good buy, one can't go wrong with this radio at this price. Carl CEF-357 |

The Cherokee CBS-1000 I had was powered by 120 volts AC only. Being that it has the same CBS-1000 model number and looks identical to the Cherokee, I would venture to say it mods the same. |

WOW! Nice price! A friend used to run the Cherokee version around here and always sounded top shelf with a D104 night eagle. I have to wonder if I'm looking at a freq DISPLAY or counter? Hmmmmm. How about a review? Lon...you never seem too busy?! Maybe you could squeeze in a review oh...between the hours of 1AM and 4? |

Nice looking radio that would look great in my collection. Shame it does not run on 240v, and it seems not to run on 13.8v either. Oh well another one to daydream about. CEFFFCEF Bob CEF703. |

Here's the reason I asked about it's kinship to the Magnum radios, it was a 40m rig. I had to find it. Magnum made a radio of this style long before. I was just curious. I knew someone that had the Magnums version that was pretty much a base 257. So if these are of the same design it should be a nice rig.

Jellybean, Magnum did produce the 40 Meter Radio pictured in your post with the same style universal outer case that Cherokee, Cobra, Copper Tomahawk, Magnum used and Northpoint is now using. Many different companies used the same style/design outer case for different radios. Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

Yeah Lon it did thanks. The case design makes it tough. I thought something so similar must have a common background, but apparently not. Thanks again. Jerry cef542 |

Ive owned the tomahawk and the cbs 1000. the worse thing to do with these radios is get inside and hack the limiter out. doesnt help much on am and renders ssb useless. the recieve on these radios is quite good. they dont appreciate having the power turned up past stock either. I personally would turn the modulation up, do the clarifier unlock, expand the channels.the best result I got, was using an echo mic for am and turning it off for sideband. The stock mic that came with it sound pretty darn good too. steve |

I got one it came with the channel mod all the feed back I got was all negative people said I sound muffled on AM&SSB when I tune in a station that I can hear them... I key up with the same result they tell me I am un-understandable or my Modulation is to low . So yes great rig if all you want to do is look at it but if you where thinking of utilizing it in the shack think again although it my make a good night light .. Mines going back!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Has anyone looked at the manual for this radio? The specifications show a 1st IF of 7.8MHz, but inspection of the board clearly shows a 10.695MHz crystal filter. Aack! Aack! - Bill the cat
