I purchased a maco 5/8s to replace my Imax, three days after installing the maco, a wind storm of 40-50 mph gusting to 65 bent it just above the tuning ring where it necks down. My 4 element maco at the same height survived the storm just fine.In the few days that I actually got to try the maco I feel it had a slight advantage over the Imax in both tx and receive. It looks like this weekend I'm going to put the Imax backup, and yes the Imax and maco where both mounted on the same pole, 54 ft to the bottom, the Imax has been thru higher winds and survived OK!! I think I'm going to order a I-10k to install this spring!

Wow, that is a surprise to me, mine has been in stronger wind for about two years now and still fine. I would call maco for a new part, it might be under warrantee. mine bends like 45% or more without a problem in gusts of over 70+.

my v5/8 has been up for nearly 20 years. it was through a very weak hurricane 'bob' in 91(?) with 85+ mph winds, as well as numerous blizzards & ice storms, with winds over 70mph. the only damage it has suffered are the 3 or so times its mast bent/broke & the antenna got layed down against something. it needed to be straightened more then once, & has never ever had anything replaced or otherwise repaired.

After hearing other people report on there 5/8s, I'm wondering if maybe mine got hit by flying debris, tree limbs,etc... It sure seems strange to me also! I'm going to try and straighten it out and maybe reinforce it with something, any ideas? thanks.
