Ok, Ok, I know it depends on many factors. Antenna height, power etc. But what is the average coverage in miles that people seem to get on their radios?
I'm in New Jersey and it's about 15 miles average.
Antenna is only about 30 feet off the ground, and legit power 4 am, 12 ssb.
I've talked to my old base station 60 miles away, but I was on an 800 ft mountain and the old base was on the top floor of an apartment building in Hudson County NJ.
BUT, what is everyone's AVERAGE communications?

Depending on the SUNSPOT/SOLOR CYCLE one day 15 miles the next day 50 miles the next day 10 miles.
No matter what equipment you have or what your setup is the SUNSPOT/SOLOR CYCLE governs how far you are going to talk daily.

I talk to a group of guys in a town 26 miles away on an average of three to four nights a week on 27.205 AM.

I am in S.E. Pennsylvania, about 40 miles NW of Philadelphia. My elevation is about 250' ASL, my antenna (Imax 2000) is mounted at 36' to the feedpoint, and can average a 35 mile radius with my Galaxy 949 stock radio.

Papajohn,One other important thing. A GOOD ANTENNA (such as the Imax 2000)and GOOD COAX will help a lot. Just put the feedpoint about 36 feet.

here in the NY metro area, 4/12 watts on a decent base antenna, base to base, you know you're doing GOOD if you can hear every word at....10 miles! yup! that's it. on ocassion, MAYBE double that. that is roughly sea level, unaided by wattage, beams, or any kind of propagation. |

Here in Iowa with my beam I can easily talk to the Quad Cities which is 40 miles away. Very flat land everywhere and I live on a small hill. |
