I just ordered a double bazooka 1/2 wave dipole for my apartment, the dipole is made to order to function on 11 meters, my window is facing north, and I want to shoot skip going east. So my plan is to mount the dipole as high up on the wall facing westward, I won't mount it in the inverted V style, because I want the 2 lobes to transmit horizontally (More gain). Question, I've heard that I will take a 3 db drop in transmitting locally for not making the dipole into an inverted V- since most cb transmissions are vertically polarized, in other words I won't be able to hear the locals and vice-versa.. but I will gain the ability for long distance skip, is this true?. CB is so dead around San Francisco (It's too quiet around here), and I want to really reach out and talk to hawaii, australia, etc. I'm going crazy, I need to DX. So for purposes of skip shooting, will mounting the dipole in a T formation benefit me?, what will I lose as far as talking local, and gain as far as Dxing... I hope this all makes sense. Finally will mounting it on the west wall as opposed to mounting it across the north facing window cause tvi problems for my neighbors??, I will just be running 4 watts thru the dipole. Thanks in advance.

"WEST" apt wall where Dipole will be mounted. I want the xmission lobes to be going west and east, for dxing purposes. Now that I made my question more understandable, I'd appreciate any help, or respones, thanks.

Wolverine you have to watch out for tvi I had the double bazooka dipole in my attic and it just about killed the TV and watch out for their little red sticker I think mine was on the wrong side. you will probably have to trim the ends I could not get swr down until I had cut most of the end wire off

Milkman I'm confused, i thought that running the dipole on the "West" side of the apt wall would transmit east and west.

I thought that the dipole transmits lobes perpendicular (east and west)to the direction that it's facing (north), and not xmit parallel to the direction (North) that it's pointing to....am I correct?
Are you saying that the lobes xmit like this:
dipole pointing north >------------<
lobes are xmitted this way <-----> north/south??
antenna theory is sooo fascinating. Someone show me the way.

I just hoping that my diagram as far as how this dipole is supposed to transmit is correct. "How bout Milkman, how bout tech 808, ya'll got yer ears on ?". |

Put one end North and one end South and you will be just fine and forget where window is located.

When you get the dipole up let me know how you like it. I made mine and have it in the attic and it receives very good but the transmit that's not so good. Thinking about putting it a tree behind the apartment. But my neighbor has a pitbull dog that bark every time I go into my backyard. And it makes everyone's dogs start to bark. And you know what that means neighbors start looking out there back doors. |
