when we bought our house there was already a tv antenna tower that's approx 45ft to the top. 6ft from the top is a square plate approximately 2ft square(in other words, there is about 6ft of pipe sticking above that plate). The absolute Highest I can climb on the tower puts me about eye level with that plate(no more ladder rungs or cross pieces to stand on). I honestly don't know how the previous people put the tv antenna on it(is gone now), unless they stood the whole thing up in one piece(over 50ft of tower and antenna, with no sections or folds in the tower).Iput a crossbar that extends 3ft from each side of the tower with a 2ft mast at each end. I then put my solarcon-99 on the mast, properly grounded, etc and have 1:2avg swr..

My question is, In what way and how much is this setup going to affect transmit and receive? Will the section of tower that is parallel to the antenna affect or block anything??

with a 1:2 swr it looks as you done everything right and your going to be ok...

Question for you?

How does your radio seem to be TX and RX?

Also on the Tower they may have use a gin-pole to put the tower pieces up and had the mast and antenna on the top tower piece already when they pulled it up with the gin-pole to place on top.

thanks starface...I have no Idea how they did what, the tower is 100% hard welded that's why
I thought they put it up in one piece...as far as tx and rx I am literally the Only cb in town(there are a few cb antennas on vehicles but noone talks) so I can't even get a local radio check..and I got my swr down to flat on 1 and 40 so that's good...Hoping for conditions on sunday mornings!!!!

50 foot of tower that is welded would probably be installed with a crane. My free standing tower at my house is 45 feet to the top and I used a crane. It was all assembled on the ground, complete with brackets, top platform, etc. Then, the whole thing was righted and placed on the base with the crane. 6 bolts later, a climb to the top to remove the sling from the headache ball, and the tower was on its own.
