I want to buy a mobile antenna to use in my Mountaineer. I have a Galaxy 44 with an Astatic Road Devil mic I plan to use. I might run my 225 amp once in a while but no problem with the variable power on the Galaxy because I can turn it down. I know the 5000 can handle more watts, but is there more gain with one than another ? Thanks, Diamond Jim

In my opinion I would say no.
If there is it would be so small that that I don`t think anyone one the other end could tell it.
This is just my opinion and I have not seen any figures to compare the two antennas for actual gain.

I agree.I see no difference in performance except the 5000 will handle more power.

Sent an email to tech support at Wilson yesterday and they told me 10-15% more gain on transmit and recieve, beside being able to handle more power. Is it worth the extra $ for 10%-15%, up to the individual I guess.

How much more it is where your looking?
I'd take every edge I could find personally. I understand the 5000 has a larger coil and larger coil strand diameter. This SHOULD translate to better gain AND ears. Plenty of people running a LOT of watts into their 1000 but I'd feel better with a 5000 IF I wanted a base loaded mobile.
