I have a texas ranger base that suddenly stopped putting out full power on traqnsmit. From the range it was getting I would have to say it is putting out a few milliwatts. The receive is fine.

I am guessing that the finals are blown.

A nearby lightning strike may be to blame?

Anyways, is there a better replacement for the common 1969 final transistor? Something that can be directly fit in place without any muss or fuss?

Where can I get one?

Thanks a bunch.

Moderator Note!

You can order a factory replacement 1969 and any other parts you may need direct from Ranger.

i have not used one yet, but workman makes a transistor that is supposed to be a drop in replacement for the 1969.
its called the CB20W i think.
look it up online and im sure you'll find out if it will work.
if you're thinking MOSFET mods, ala the ERF2030, remember that most of these mods require some fine tuning afterwards by means of component changes.
keep this in mind if you go this route.

the 2SC1969's are getting harder to find, but for some reason right now there are a bunch available on the auction site.
i know another place they can be found.

check the voltage on the final and driver pins, and post the voltages you get.
im pretty sure its just a blown final, but maybe the driver is bad too, and these numbers will tell me that.

what radio is it?
matt
anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!
