need a good little amp that won't pull a lot of current for a 2000 lincoln town car. amp will be used primarily to talk Dx on ssb. a few i have looked at have been the KL-501, X-Force midnight special C-250 & C-500,Magna Force MF-200,Cobra XL350 or Cobra XL450. kind of leaning towards the KL-501 with the option of using a romote to mout it in the trunk. i don't belive the alt. is very big at all and i am using a wilson 1000 trunk mount. have talked from wash. dc to the3 carribian on ssb just want a little extra help i know on ssb you don't need to much when conditions are right. and don't want to spend over $220.00 thanks

my preference is the tried & true texas star dx350. ab1, SSB delay, a REAL 250 watt PEP output from 2-2sc2879 transistors, 30 amp or less current draw, a high drive version available for dual final radios. unfortunately, no remote for trunk mounting, but, then again, it gets HOT in there, so....price is in your ballpark even after shipping. you WILL have 50-100 watts more then the typical '150 watt' radio that includes the 2970, 6900ftb, 95t.

I have to agree with Pat on Texas Star. Unless you can get the 2 pill model to work safe I would go with the 4 pill model ( 4X2290 or 4X2879 ) being that you have a dual final radio. A Lincoln alternator should have the power.
If you have a late model Lincoln I would make an extra special effort to ground and shield everything. Use only the highest of quality coax!

148fgtl is a REAL CB, 1 final . 148fgtldx is the dual final export that is EXACTLY like your connex4800dxl kenny(& rci6900, superstar158).

sounds like the texas star dx 350 would be the ticket, i forgot about that one. yup my ol'e trusty 148fgtl is a single final. i tried a 2950dx in the lincoln but it seems like the exports just pick up any little noise it puts out. i mean it would buzzzzz from the fule pumps, also the air pump for the suspension any little buzzer would come thru the 2950dx but the 148fgtl is much more quite. still have to do the fuel pump mod but mcuh better. i do excutive transportation and wait a lot for them at meetings and have the radio and antenna in the trunk when they are in the car but take out when they are at meetings or dinner and i don't want to miss the summer dx season. that texas star will be the fix for sure. thanks a million guys 73's
