Looks like there is a new model predator 10K. It is called a competition model. Supposedly has even greater DB. to me though it looks just like their regular single coil. Has anyone seen or used this new competition one? Thanks/ |

but unlike other coiled antennas, is filled to keep damage to a minimum-a direct quote from 1 of their dealers....so, essentially, it is the same thing, probably just a bit heavier. no difference in performance, so, why they call it a competition antenna....i don't know. |

It has a longer coil and the coil mesures 7 and a half inches. Not as wide banded but they say it has more gain. Might have to try one. |

i doubt the bigger coil would give any measurable gain difference. the biggest plus is the fact that it is a relatively LONG shortened-via-coil antenna. 22" shaft predators usually tune in the 7' + range, not 108" true 1/4 wave, but closer to it then most other antennas. also doubt they handle 10kw based on the plastic spacer, but, i use them with no problems, they are light and magnet-mountable. have yet to see any antenna noticeably outperform them in my use. |

I am just stating what the builder of the antenna said.It seems a bigger coil would cause less gain but I can see how being less broadbanded will affect gain in a positive way. I guess I will have to try one. I agree with Patzerozero! |

i have tried one in place of my 17" shaft single coil 10K. with the test being done at 15 miles in seperation from mobile to base, there was no actual notacible signal strength gain on the S meter but there was a slight gain in the audio.on being broadbanded my swr's with the 10k 17" single coil shaft on 27.5550 are 1.2 and lower below to 26.9050. with the comp model swr's on 27.5550 are not much more at 1.3. but below they start to rise at 27.105. |
