*Correction AR-3500.* I also can't seem to get all the way on ch 13. I can get to 27.116 or 27.114 after it is on for a while 10-15 min I can get it to .115 then some times when I key the mic it will go back up to .116 I have made sure the 10 meter stuff is off (the button that tx on one ch and rec on a different one) On a different post someone said that the 3500 dont like humidity and it does something to the radio so that it wont scan. I am wondering if that is the case with mine. I may need to find a different ground, it is grounded under the hood (95 Grand Caravan)on hood hinge brace bolt. The mic wire is also worn where it comes out of the back of the plug. The outer black plastic / rubber has cracked and I can see the wires inside. Could that make the humm or is it because I was not on the freq all the way?? Thanks Mavrick and the Knight Watch CEF 856

you change freq/channels by pushing the up or down buttons under the readout digits. the 3rd digit from the right, labeled '10' would be the button to push to change CB channels. the 2nd button from the right should be set to '5', the right-most button set to '0'. you'd set radio THAT way to show 27.1150, then push that 3rd button to change 1 channel at a time, including 'A" freqs. the buttons are notorious for 'wearing out', but, then, they usually just won't work. they are NOT available anymore, if that is the problem, you'll need to get a junker & hope a few buttons still work....or wire a switch to the radio. once you DO get to the desired freq, you should program it into memory-assuming the backup battery is still good....otherwise, it won't save to memory. are you using the 'SCAN' feature to change freqs? you can change WHICH DIGIT scans, which would make it easier to 'get on' a particular freq. i find the 'scan' mod a nuisance, except it is required for access to 12 meters. if scan rate is too fast, you don't stop on the freq you want, then need to re-scan the opposite direction. just going to a 12 meter freq & staying there is OK, but, i usually manually change freqs, then re-program whenever i want to go to 12m. |

Wildrat: No it is a had me down. My boss gave it to me. So I have no idea how old it is. I realy would like to keep using it because it has USB / LSB, and all my other radio's are plane ol-CB's, (and the Ranger has a bit more power) Patzerozero: Great info! It realy acts strange some times. When I turn it on after tuning it to 27.115.0 and turing it off it comes up 21.117.0 and I can get it to 27.116.0 or 27.113.0 then after being on for a bit I can get it to 27.115.0. I will play around with the 2nd and 3rd button so I can get more experence on how it is working or not. I dont use the scan and I only use the 11m freq. If I would use that far right button when I cant seem to get to 115.0 and I am like .114.0 if I move it up to like.114.9 would that get me close enough to ch 13?, should I leave that one on 0 all time? You all are a great help! Mavrick CEF 856

sorry i thought this was a base setup.the hum is most likely coming from the mike.run both leads to your battery.this should provide the best ground and power.ya might have a bad freq.display not sure.might be from lack of proper ground also.reconnect BOTH power leads to the battery and post back. dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64

Thanks Dale I'll do that this weekend. I did make contact with some more locals on monday and I had 2 base stations said I sounded great no hum at all and I was on 27.116.0 and they were on ch 13, however I was much closer to them this time and did not have to talk across the twin city's to get to them. I cant help but think that the hum may not have came from me but hitched a ride on my tx??. Next on the list of equp I want to get is a new mic, and a mag mount for my willson 1000 (trunk mount) and a new wip for it, the one I have was trimmed / tuned for a freeband ch, that my buddy usto run, or just a mag mount 1000. Right now I have a cobra antenna on the center of the roof on my van and a NDS RF amp. I cant help but think that with a new mic and better antenna my send and rec will improve. But I will need to save up to make those changes. Thanks, Mavrick CEF 856
