I bought a one owner, smoke free from a friend at first just to help him out in bad times. Now that I have the unit, wow! it's super clean and a really fine rig! I know these were supposed to be the cats meow of bases, therefore I really never paid much attention to them. Now that I have one in my collection, pretty cool!

It has one light out on the channel selector/indicator. Are these parts still available and easily replaced?

What microphone matches best with this unit?

Too bad there are no newer bases these days. Nothing really different and unique these days.....

Thanks all, 392

How do?
For that bulb try Copper, give them a call, if they don't have it maybe they can put you on the right track.

Back when the 2000s first came out it seems like everyone around here was using D-104s and most were the Silver Eagle.

You're right, there aren't many base radios any more (legal anyway),the only one is the Galaxy 2547.

You might consider recapping that 2000 in the future. The caps get tired and need upgrading after X amount of time. I have a Uniden Washington and a Ward 719 (Cobra 140)that I'm going to re-cap before I put them back on the air. I'll use Astatic mics on them.

I have owned one since they came out. I would not trade this radio for any others they have made or make now. I only use the stock mike on mine as I do not believe in any type amplified mike in my old age.

Hey Harve;
Where does Radar live? On Mash he always said he was from Ottumwa Iowa. If he's there he'll be driving a Korean War era Jeep since he shipped it home a piece at a time. LOL !

Those 2000s, Madisons, U-Washingtons and 142 GTLs were hard to beat. The only problem is age gets to everything, that's why I'm going through mine and recapping them.

I was on QTHs web sight and found the Galaxy radios on the banned list. I wanted a 959 and now owning one would put my Ham ticket at risk, doesn't seem right if the Galaxy's are type accepted. But they(FCC)says they are too easy to modify.

Things that make you say,"Hhhummm".
