Hello. I have a President P400 base radio (MB8719, with the PC385ag board) with SSB. I noticed there are two transistors at the back of the radio. The 2SC2166, and the 2SC1969. I presume the first transistor is for A.M., and the second is for SSB? What I am wanting to do is to possibly upgrade these transistors for a few extra watts output on both A.M. and SSB. I know that a few extra watts will not be that noticeable, but I am basically just wanting to experiment a little bit. What would be some good choices as replacements for the above transistors? I am thinking I could replace the 2166 and add a 1969 in its place (for the AM side), but what would be a good choice to upgrade the 1969 (for the SSB side)? Thanks for any responses. |

Okay, with a bit of scouring the 'net, I found out that the 2166 is the driver and not a seperate output final (duh, why did I think it had seperate finals for AM and SSB?) I guess all I need to know now is, what would be a good replacement final for the 1969? I may or may not have to get a bigger driver too, I don't know. Thanks again. |

There about as good as they get, But I changed some of the 1969's to 2312's but I'm not going to lie I seen no difference in output. You might try a npc mod to get it to do what you want. I dont know that radio enough to tell you but sounds similiar to a cobra 2000. Anybody know this one ? |

That combination is as good as it gets unless you use an MRF-477 and reverse a few leads to get it on the board right. I would NOT mess with it however you asked... 307 |

Thanks, 307 and Crafter. I guess I will just take your advice, and leave it as it is. I am finally getting the audio chip replaced on it, and am deciding on whether to keep it stock, or convert it over to 10 meters to use as a beacon station. Thanks! |
