Probably won't get much out of it but, I have opened up some of the older Cobra 19's like the ST model. Inside you will see 3 pots smack dab in front of you and they are clearly labeled. One is the meter, one is the sqeulch, and the other is rf output Turn it up and see. I got a couple extra watts out of a friends 19. The ultra should be similar.

Other than that a good antenna and or a nice little amp should do the trick!

somewhere near the audio transformer you should see a variable pot for the AM Modulation... turn the modulation up to around 110% and then put the radio back together.. that's the best you'll get out of it but it will sound good.
