I recieved my Alpha V-5/8 antenna on 12-19-07 ,The 9' Ground radials are so long. The antenna is coupled with 100' 8-x mini and a S.W.R. of 0.2,normal channel. The upper radial is over 20' tall. The center ring is 18'' around. The antenna is like a tower over the house. Man it's Big. I can hear people talking 45 miles easily. The way they couple the power and ground is a swirling motation. It is by far the best of the best . I would Buy again & again. On upper 40 swr is 1.4 ch 37 ,0.9 on ch 4. Lower is 1.4 ch 37, Bends good 5/5 John Morman

I Just Put The Alpha V 5/8 Un In A Pine Tree 70 Ft Off The Ground. ( Actually I Hired A Tree Climber To Put It Up) The First Thing I Want To Say..The Directions To Assemble The Antenna Is Just A Starting Point..YOU Will Have To "Tweek" Each Of The Joints To Get The CORRECT SWR..DO NOT Mess With The Bare Copper Wire That Connects To The Ring & PL259..Unless You Want To Cover The Bare Wire With Some Electrical Tape Or Something..Dont Know Why Maco Didnt Insulate This Wire!?..The Female 259 That You Snug Up On That Thin Piece Of A Mounting Bracket..BEWARE!!!! When I Tried To Use CQ 1000 Low Loss Coax..As They Pulled The Antenna In The Final Position Of The Tree..The Coax Pulled The Pl259 Through The Mounting Bracket!!!! SHORTED the Antenna Out!!..Climber Had To Come Back Another Day & Fix The Problem..I Have Used The Antenna On 11M & 10M Without Tuner..I Can Tune It On 12-15-17-20Meters With Tuner..Have Talked All Over The USA & Several Foreign Countries..You Know How Everyone Crowds Up On ONE Channel On CB, AM OR Side Band? NO Problem Being Heard!! Swr Flat Across CB Band..Gets Up To 1.7 Middle Of 10M..At 28.425..This Is My 1ST Experience With A Maco Antenna..I Would Say I Am Well Pleased With The Performance..Previous Antenna Antron 99 NO Radial Kit..Still Up In The Tree After 15 Years..Still Works!!..Good Luck With Your Maco Purchase!!

I live about 20 miles northeast of Pensacola, in the Florida panhandle in the town of Milton. When Hurricane Dennis went over our home in 2005, it did something that Ivan, Erin, and Opal, (other hurricanes that bore-sighted our home over the years) couldn't do? Dennis packed extremely strong, and sustained winds of well over 100 miles per hour and twisted my beloved AV58 around like a pretzel. That AV58's home was about 45 feet up, connected to a 20-foot galvanized pole locked in the top of a 10-foot section of Ron 25 tower with a nose cone. You may find this difficult to fathom, but I talked "barefoot," on 38 LSB around the world to places such as Tasmani, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Europe, Hawaii and the majority of North, Central, and South America. Granted, I realize that the atmospherics had to be, and were, ideal, for "DXing" that long a distance. I recently purchased my 2nd AV58 from y'all and am expecting delivery any day now. I have a Hustler II on a pole alongside my radio room about 38-feet up and all I will say is, I want an AV58 back up for talking to "wherever" it reaches out and touches someone. The Hustler II is great for talking with local cronies," but for the real long distance talking, I don't think that you can beat the AV58 for the price, quality, materials that it's constructed from, workmanship, and performance. A "great," dependable base antenna.
